Dressed for Shubun-no-hi (1890)
“From left to right, a Maiko (Apprentice Geisha), a Junior Geiko (Geisha), and a Geiko (Geisha), dressed in fine clothing, probably to celebrate Shubun-no-hi (Autumn Equinox) given the Autumn motifs on the Maiko’s obi (sash).
The Maiko is wearing a musubi (knot) variation to her traditional Darari Obi (Dangling Sash) which appears to have only one panel hanging down, with the other one tucked underneath, the end folded above one shoulder.
Both Geiko are wearing their Obi (Sashes) tied in the Koken musubi (Ancient Sage Knot), facing in opposite directions.” (source)
